The Best Guest Room Ideas

When decorating a new home, you need all the help you can get, especially if you can’t afford to hire a professional decorator. Beside the master bedroom and living room, a very important part is the guest room. When we make a home we don’t think exclusively about how we and our family will feel inside it, but about how our guests will react as well. The most important aspect is comfort and afterwards functionality and design. This article aims to point out some guest room ideas that will help get you through furnishing quicker than ever.

The first step when decorating your guest room is to choose a bed; it should definitely be a double, but if there isn’t enough space a single will do as well, as long as it’s comfortable. Use bold color and patterns to create a lively and playful atmosphere. Choose a theme and build up from that. You can do a flower-power themed guest room, or one with nautical motifs. Arrange several throw pillows on the bed, or a fluffy blanket. An arm chair or a rocking chair would be a nice addition and would make the room more inviting and livable.

If your guest room doesn’t have a separate bathroom, make sure to put a mirror on the wall or a vanity table. You also have to make sure your guests have enough depositing space, so arrange some drawers or closets equipped with spare hangers; add extra blankets and towels so that they won’t miss anything. If the guest room is a space you use for other purposes while it isn’t being occupied, you should check it for dust, clutter or faulty light bulbs and other irregularities before the guests arrive.

The room should also have curtains in warm colors and dark shutters to keep the light out. As mentioned above, it is primordial that you choose a theme before starting to decorate. You could go for a modern, simplistic design with straight lines and earthy colors, or a vintage design with heavy curtains, rich colors and a few lampshades. If you’re on a limited budget and can’t afford to do major transformations, all that matters is that the room be clean, comfortable and a home away from home. A nice touch would be a fresh bundle of flowers, or some potted plants, incense, candles and some books. Depending on the type of room you’ve created, add some photos, paintings or posters on the walls and before you know it, they’re already knocking on your door.
